This week, the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) submitted a letter to Ha Nguyen McNeill, Acting Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), expressing appreciation for the agency’s continued service during the government shutdown.
Like air traffic controllers, TSA officers are classified as essential employees, meaning they must keep working without pay during the shutdown and will get their back-pay restored after the funding lapse ends.
In the letter, ASAE President and CEO Michelle Mason thanked TSA’s frontline employees for their professionalism and commitment to maintaining the safety and security of the traveling public despite difficult circumstances. Mason noted that associations rely heavily on travel for meetings, conferences and events that drive economic activity and professional collaboration, making TSA’s work especially vital to the association and hospitality sectors.
“As the association community relies heavily on travel for meetings, conferences, and events that drive economic activity and professional collaboration, we are especially grateful for the continued service of TSA agents who help make these gatherings possible and keep associations safe,” Mason wrote.
